Versatile athlete favoring Tide

On any given down Bessemer's Corey White can be found playing any of several positions on the football field, but running back is his forte'.

"I can play all around, but I prefer to play running back," White told BamaMag.com. One of the metro Birmingham area's top prospects in 2002-03, he is an extremely versatile athlete who split time in the backfield last season with two other players.

White, 6-0 and 215 pounds, also saw action on defense as a third-down linebacker and occasional safety.

A versatile athlete, White says he prefers playing running back.

Sporting a 4.49 best clocking in the 40-yard dash, White is a very consistent running back who can be counted on every game to produce close to 100 yards. Solidly built, White is also quite durable.

He finished his junior year with 785 yards and nine touchdowns despite sharing the ball with two teammates.

In limited action on defense, White also had one interception that he returned for a touchdown.

White can expect to tote the mail more frequently as a senior as Jess Lanier High School now has a coach that believes in a power running attack.

The Bessemer native has camped at UAB and attended the Nike camp (Tuscaloosa), plus he plans to attend summer camps at Alabama, Auburn, LSU, and possibly Southern Miss.

While acknowledging that he needs to get stronger, White currently bench presses 285 pounds and squats 305. He carries a 2.8 GPA and took the ACT test in April.

White is favoring Alabama over Mississippi State, Auburn, LSU, North Carolina State, Southern Miss, and UAB.
