Bama's Jung is SEC Player of the Week

Alabama men's tennis player junior Joseph Jung was named SEC Player of the Week after come-from-behind upsets over two of the nation's top 60 ranked singles players.

Jung, a junior who is currently ranked 100th, but sure to move up in the next rankings period, won the award for the first time in his career.

Jung turned in perhaps the best week of his career in three-set matches, extending his current winning streak to 13.

He clinched Alabama's win Friday night over Oklahoma with a 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 win over No. 22 Marek Velicka. Sunday he continued to roll by defeating No. 58 Matko Maravic of Michigan, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

During Jung's current 13-match winning streak, which dates back to March 25, 2005, he has picked up five wins over ranked opponents and gone a perfect 9-0 when playing at No. 1 singles.

Jung began the season at No. 100 in the Fila Collegiate Tennis Rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. However, since the initial rankings were released on January 10, Jung has reeled off four straight wins and helped guide Alabama to a 3-1 start and is sure to move up the rankings when released again later this month.
