"I have received scholarship offers from Alabama, Auburn, Vanderbilt, Louisville and Mississippi State," said Rolando McClain from Decatur, (Ala.). "Alabama, Auburn and LSU have been recruiting me harder than anyone. LSU sends me a lot of handwritten letters."
"Right now I really like both in-state schools as well as LSU. Those are my top three schools. They are all pretty much equal."
McClain discusses his favorites.
Alabama: "I really like their coaches and the atmosphere down there."
Auburn: "I love their defense."
LSU: "I love everything about LSU."
McClain had an impressive junior season recording 104 tackles, four sacks, one interception, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He sees playing time on the offensive side of the ball as a sure-handed receiving tight end. He recorded 24 receptions for 436 yards in 2005.
McClain projects as a linebacker on the next level, but may see playing time at tight end as well. He is aware of what makes him a dominant player on both sides of the ball as well as the improvements he plans to make before his senior season.
"I always know where the ball is," he said. "I am very good at tackling. When the ball is in the air [on offense], I always make the catch."
"I know I must continue to work on my strength and cut down on my forty time (4.64)."
McClain knows what will determine his college decision and who will help him decide his future destination.
"It's going to be a family decision," he said. "I am going to try to find the place where I can receive the best education."
McClain is scheduled to attend Auburn's Junior Day March 11.
He plans to attend summer camps at Alabama, Auburn and will participate in the Scout.com All-American Combine in Tuscaloosa April 29.
