Talented Wide Receiver Talks Recruiting

Marquez Strickland is one of more bigger, athletic wide receivers in the state of Alabama for the class of 2007. Stickland excels on the football field, and he is receiving plenty of interest from college programs.

"I have been receiving heavy interest from Tennessee, Alabama, Clemson, Auburn, Louisville, Mississippi State, Southern Miss and Vanderbilt," said Marquez Strickland from Opelika, (Ala.).

The 6-2, 198-pound athlete isn't ready to name a leader as he stated, "It's really hard to name any favorite. I like all the schools equally that are showing interest in me. I didn't really grow up liking one team over another. This summer I am going to look at each school and see what they have to offer."

"I am going to look at the campus, check-out the facilities and build relationships with coaching staffs. I am goig to check-out the academic backgrounds of each program."

Strickland was a star with the ball in his hands as he rushed for 561 yards on 56 carries and scored eight touchdowns during his junior season. He recorded 28 receptions for 487 yards and scored four touchdowns. He scored two touchdowns on special teams----one kick-off and one punt return.

He is aware of his strengths and what he wants to improve before his senior season.

"I am fast," Strickland said. "I go up and get the ball when it's in the air. I am not a body catcher. I always catch the ball with my hands. I feel like I need to improve on my stalk blocking before next season."

Strickland holds a 3.0 GPA and scored a 17 on the ACT.

Strickland competes for Opelika's track team and will miss Junior Day at several schools due to track meets held on Saturdays.

However, Stickland will miss one scheduled track meet to attend the Scout.com All-American Combine in Tuscaloosa April 29.
