Make It a Triple

Alabama freshman right-hander Tommy Hunter was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week after his complete-game (seven inning), three-hitter against No. 1 ranked South Carolina on Sunday at Sarge Frye Field in Columbia.

Hunter tossed his second complete game of the season and held the Gamecocks to one run and three hits through seven innings as the Alabama completed a double header sweep to clinch its first-ever series win in Columbia. He walked two and struck out five and faced just five over the minimum.

The announcement marked the third time this year that Hunter has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week. He also took home those honors against Florida International (8 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K) in his first collegiate start on Feb 26 and against Ole Miss (9 IP,6 H, 2 ER, BB, 7 K), where he recorded his first career complete game and first SEC win on March 25.

For the season, Hunter has appeared in 11 games and made seven starts. He has compiled a 5-2 record and 2.95 ERA, with two complete games and five quality starts. The rookie has worked 55 innings and allowed 46 hits, 21 runs and 18 earned runs, with 10 walks and 41 strikeouts. In SEC play, Hunter is 2-1 with 3.67 ERA in four starts, with two complete games.
