Tide Signs Junior College Forward

Mykal Riley, a 6-foot-6, 185 pound forward from Panola (Texas) Junior College has signed to attend and play basketball at the University of Alabama.

The Pine Bluff, Ark., native averaged 18.4 points this past season at Panola. His sophomore season stats also included making 93 three-point shots in Panola's 22 games, an average of 4.2 per game. He averaged 4.4 steals per game and was an All Region XIV 2nd Team selection in 2006. Last weekend Riley played in the Region XIV All-Star game against the Division I National All-Stars in the National Junior College Athletic Association All-Star Classic. It was an event that included 12 All-Americans.

"We're excited about Mykal signing with our team," said Alabama head basketball coach Mark Gottfried. "He's an extremely good shooter with great range, and he led the nation in steals as well. For us to add a player of his caliber at this point in the spring is fortunate."
