Simpson Arrest Still Simmering

Juwan Simpson returned to the Alabama football complex Monday, a day after it was revealed that he was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana, receiving stolen goods and a firearm charge.

Simpson said he could not comment on the matter. He entered the complex Monday afternoon and stayed for about 20 minutes. Mike Shula was away from the complex, hosting his charity golf tournament on Monday, and defensive coordinator Joe Kines was also out of the office.

Shula only said, "We'll handle the situation internally," when asked about Simpson, continuing a pattern of protecting his players and not discussing off-field issues publicly.

Reached on his cell phone after, outgoing Alabama associate athletics director of media relations Larry White, said that Shula was aware of the situation, and that he planned to meet with Simpson this week.

Published reports said Simpson was stopped for driving erraticly before being searched and arrested. A female passenger in the vehicle was released.
