"Tateshia is a player with tremendous athleticism who can block shots, run the floor well and score around the basket," Alabama Coach Stephany Smith said. "She is a great communicator who will be a good addition to our class. Though we have signed several players this year, we were still one post player shy. She could be the missing piece to our roster."
Page, a 6-4 post player from Tupelo, Miss., comes to Alabama after an outstanding prep career in Mississippi. Page led her Lanier High team to state semi-finals appearances in each of the last two seasons.
While starring for Lanier, Page shared the team's MVP award and was Lanier's defensive MVP. She was selected to compete in the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star game earlier this spring after earning All-Region and All-Metro second team honors in her senior season.
Playing for head coach Jonas James, Page helped the Lady Bulldogs to a 24-9 mark. She tallied 10 double-doubles during the season while averaging 12.2 points and 15.2 rebounds per game.
Along with the signing of Page, Smith announced that two players from last year's squad will transfer to other schools.
Chanel Johnson, a forward/center from Tulsa, Okla., and Crystal Bellinger, a guard from Manhattan, N.Y., have left the Tide program. "Crystal and Chanel each were looking for more playing time," Smith said. "Both felt it would be in their best interest to look elsewhere to achieve that goal. We wish both of them the best in their careers."
Johnson, who was a sophomore last season, played in 22 games for the Tide, averaging 1.4 points and 0.6 rebounds per game. She scored a season high nine points against Alabama A&M.
Bellinger, a redshirt freshman in 2005-06, struggled with nagging knee problems and was unable to play for much of the beginning of last season. She scored 1.1 points and averaged 0.3 rebounds in eight games a year ago.
