Mal Moore Selection

Mal Moore, director of athletics at The University of Alabama, has his detractors. But he also has his supporters. A few weeks ago the Alabama Board of Trustees named the football administration building the Mal M. Moore Athletics Aministration Building. Today it was announced that he will be honored by the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame.

It is primarily because of the fame of Alabama athletics, and particularly Crimson Tide football, that the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame is, indeed, a hall of fame.

Today the ASHOF had the following announcement:

The State of Alabama Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors proudly announces co-winners if its' prestigious Distinguished Alabama Sportsman Award. Mal Moore, athletics director at The University of Alabama and David Housel, former athletics director at Auburn University, will be honored at the Sports Hall of Fame induction banquet June 3, 2007.

They will join the other inductees of next year's class for an outstanding evening with many of Alabama's greatest sports legends. The other honorees are:  Wilbur Jackson, Barry Krauss, Gene Washington, Buck Johnson, Sonny Smith, David Marsh, Jerry Duncan and the late Al Lary.

Jackson, Krauss and Duncan are former Alabama football players; Lary a football and baseball player; and Johnson a basketball player.

In addition some 40 former inductees are expected to attend.

The event will take place Sunday, June 3, at the Sheraton Birmingham Ballroom. Tickets will be available at a later date.  For information call the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame at 205-323-6665.
