Davidson Out, Hopes to Be Re-Instated

Alabama senior Jermareo Davidson lost his eligibility with the Crimson Tide basketball.

In a statement released just before tipoff of Alabama's game Saturday against Alabama State, Head Coach Mark Gottfried said The University was working with the Southeastern Conference and NCAA to have Jermareo Davidson re-instated.

"Jermareo obviously has had a very difficult last four weeks," Gottfried said.

Davidson's girlfriend Brandy Murphy died in an auto accident in Atlanta on November 12th. Davidson was a passenger in the car.

"Due to his missing some class time and institutional policy, Jermareo has been withdrawn from his current academic schedule," Gottfried said. "We are working alongside the SEC off Office and according to the SEC and NCAA guidelines we are anticipating that he will be fully re-instated in the next few days."

Alabama also played without point guard Ronald Steele Saturday night, who did not dress in the game. Steele has been nursing a knee injury all season.
