Packed And Ready

Santa Claus isn't the only one packed up for a long journey. While it may not compare to St. Nick's travel, Alabama football players had cars packed for a brief trip home before heading to Shreveport.

Alabama Interim Coach Joe Kines said the practice work for the Independence Bowl has been good. Friday's practice was a very short one with work on special teams. Players were then excused until they gather in Shreveport Sunday, Christmas Eve.

"Most of the players had their cars packed and are ready to go," Kines said following the Friday morning workout. "But even with that, they were concentrating. We have had good concentration."

He said the weather had also been extremely good, although there was a bit of a drizzle Friday morning. Even that was good, Kines said, "because we might have to play in it, so we need to practice in it."

Alabama will resume practice in Shreveport Christmas Day. The Crimson Tide will meet Oklahoma State in the Independence Bowl at 3:30 p.m. Thursday with television coverage by ESPN.

One feature of Friday's practice was the long-time Alabama tradition of players carrying the seniors from the Thomas Field practice area following the last time those men will practice in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama's moving van equipment truck has been loaded and will head to Shreveport with Equipment Manager Tank Conerly and Assistant Equipment Manager Lee Leonard Saturday.
