Vlachos Visits Tide and Seminoles

Scout.com three-star center William Vlachos, from Mountain Brook, (Ala.), has taken back-to-back official visits to Florida State and Alabama. Vlachos talks about his visits, which SEC power school is next in line to offer and where he stands with his commitment to the Crimson Tide.

"My official visit to Alabama went good," said William Vlachos. "I enjoyed it a whole lot. They busted out the whole red carpet treatment for me."

"I spent most of my time with coach [Steve] Marshall. I know he is going to the NFL now. I liked all the other coaches I met during my visit."

Vlachos spent a lot of his time in Tuscaloosa with a former teammate.

"The visit was really good. I went to the basketball game, and that was fun. We put on the jerseys in the locker room and ran out on the field."

"My host was Charlie Higgenbotham. It was good to hang out with him. We have been good buddies for a long time. We also hung out with Andre Smith, Josh Chapman and Zach Schreiber. It was a lot of fun."

"They are not sure about the grayshirt. It depends on my shoulder. I just had shoulder surgery. I had a torn right Labrum. The surgery was two weeks ago, and I am already out of the sling. Marlon Davis and Chris Capps both had the same surgery. I should be back to full strength before the summer."

"Coach Saban talked about me being a center and how I fit into his plans. He likes how I finish off defenders and likes how I play. He said he is a more of a defensive coach, but I am a center in his offense."

Florida State recently offered a full scholarship to Vlachos, and he took an official visit down to Tallahassee January 19-22.

"I visited Florida State last weekend," he said. "I enjoyed it a whole lot. Florida State has offered me a full scholarship, and coach [Bobby] Bowden is coming to have dinner at my house tomorrow night."

"Tyler Graves my host during that visit. It was fun. We are similar people. He went down there not knowing anybody. He just wanted to compete for a national championship."

"Florida State has put together one of the best offensive coaching staffs in the country with coach [Jimbo] Fisher and coach [Rick] Trickett. It's kind of fitting for both of them to be on the same team and Florida State offering me a scholarship. Coach Fisher was the first coach to offer me a scholarship, and coach Trickett was the first coach to start recruiting me."

"Florida has been calling me a whole lot. I think they are about to offer me a scholarship, but I am not going to visit down there."

The University of Alabama has offered Vlachos a grayshirt and asking for a delayed enrollment until the spring of 2008. Other elite schools are offering a chance at the class of 2007.

"I have decided that I am going to stick with Alabama. That is where I want to go," Vlachos concluded.
