Early this week, the weather forecast called for temperatures in the mid-50s in Tuscaloosa, not much below normal for early February. Wrong. Alabamians awoke Friday morning to warnings of a winter freeze. There's no snow or ice in Tuscaloosa, but the wet and the cold are enough to prevent the first 2007 cry of "Play ball!" Alabama's baseball season-opener has been postponed for a day.

The Alabama-Georgia State game scheduled for today has been postponed due to cold rain and freezing temperatures and will be rescheduled as part of an opening day double header on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. (CST) at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

Both games will consist of nine innings and there will be a 30-minute break between games. The stadium will not be cleared after the first game.

Alabama's season opener has been postponed for the second consecutive year. The Crimson Tide had its 2006 season opener against Winthrop pushed back one day due to heavy rain.
