Football Staff Completed

There has been a great deal of speculation about the duties of Alabama's assistant coaches–little of it exactly correct–but with the official announcement of the final staff member also came the assignments of all the assistants.

Alabama Coach Nick Saban announced Monday that Curt Cignetti, former tight ends coach, recruiting coordinator and quarterbacks coach at North Carolina State, is the final member of the nine-man Crimson Tide on-the-field coaching staff.

Cignetti's name had surfaced last week, but not until Saban provided duties of the entire staff was it known that Cignetti will be Bama's recruiting coordinator as well as wide receivers coach.

Most of the duties of Alabama assistant coaches were revealed the evening of Signing Day (February 7) when staff members introduced themselves in a private meeting of Red Elephant Club members. However, Saban's Monday announcement provided more detail as to titles.

The entire staff, in addition to Cignetti, with assignments:

Burton Burns will be associate head coach and running backs coach.

Joe Pendry will be assistant head coach for offense and offensive line coach.

Kirby Smart will be assistant head coach for defense and secondary coach.

Major Applewhite will be offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Kevin Steele will be defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach.

Ron Middleton will coach tight ends and special teams.

Bo Davis will coach the defensive line.

Lance Thompson will coach outside linebackers.
