Benjamin Russell Coach to Join Tide Staff

Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban has added Benjamin Russell Head Coach Willie Carl Martin to his football staff at the University of Alabama, according to published reports.

The Alex City Outlook reported, citing Benjamin Russell players, that Martin told them he was leaving to take an assistant coach's position at Alabama, but all of Saban's on-the-fied coaching positions are currently filled. The number of assistants who can be designated as on-field coaches is restricted by NCAA rules.

It is more likely that Martin would be filling an administrative role on Saban's football staff such as high school liason, but no official announcement has been given by The University.

A person answering the phone at Benjamin Russell High School Thursday morning confirmed that Martin was no longer with the school, and that he had taken a job at Alabama.

Benjamin Russell Athletics Director Dwight Buzbee would only confirm that Martin submitted his resignation at Benjamin Russell Wednesday morning and said any additional information would need to come from Martin himself or "from the University of Alabama."

University of Alabama officials were aware of the report, but could not confirm any of its contents as of Thursday morning.
