Alabama Lands Running Back for 2008

Jermaine Preyear, from Mobile-Davidson, (Ala.), has committed to the University of Alabama. ScoutSouth.com's Rebecca Johnston talks with the Tide's latest verbal pledge.

"I got an offer from Alabama today," Jermaine Preyear said. "Earlier when they were talking to me on Junior Day they were telling me I had to get my films to them and get my information to them. They looked at those earlier this week. They went over it with the staff and everything, and they went ahead and offered me. Coach Middleton contacted me. I talked to coach Saban."

What is it about Alabama?

"Ohhhhhh man," Preyear said. "I went to other colleges, but it wasn't like Alabama is. It will be nice not being that far from the house. Mom will be able to come to the games."

Davidson coach Fred Riley sings the praises of his star running back, "Jermaine is 5-11, 200-pounds runs about a 4.45-40 [yard dash]. He had a really solid sophomore year. He was hurt last year, but still ran for about 900 yards. Physically he reminds me of Ken Darby. He makes people miss."
