Not Getting Old For Frosh

Alabama softball freshman Charlotte Morgan was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week for the third time this season on Monday. It was the second straight week she claimed the honor.

Charlotte Morgan, a freshman from Moreno Valley, Calif., led Alabama in hitting last week with a .357 avg. (5-of-14). She helped lead the Crimson Tide to four SEC road wins in five games over spring break. She hit home runs against both Florida and South Carolina to give her a home run in all three SEC series this season. Her two-run home run against South Carolina came in the 10th inning and ended up being the difference in a 5-3 victory.

For the week Morgan hit two home runs and recorded four RBI. She also scored four runs and tallied one stolen base. She also walked once and moved a runner over with a sacrifice bunt. In the first game of the week against Florida she went 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. She was 2-for-4 in the second game of the double header with a two-run home run.

She started four games at first base and pitched in two games. She threw three scoreless innings in the extra-inning victory over South Carolina to improve to 6-1 on the year. She only allowed one hit and struck out three batters to close out the game.

Morgan and the No. 2 Crimson Tide will continue SEC play with a pair of conference series this week. They host a doubleheader with Arkansas beginning at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the Alabama Softball Complex. Friday they will head to Baton Rouge, La. for a three-game series with No. 10 LSU. The two teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Sunday's contest will be featured as the Fox Sports SEC Softball Game of the Week with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
