Tide Signee Back from Tuscaloosa

The big linebacker and Alabama signee talks about Alabama's A-Day game and his progress this off-season.

"It was a good game," Rolando McClain said from his Decatur, (Ala.) home. "It was good to see the team compete."

"I watched the linebackers, and it looked like the defense was sound. No one really stood out to me on defense. I feel like if I go in and do what I'm capable of I can compete for playing time next fall."

"The offense looked pretty good. I thought D.J. Hall did a good job on offense."

"I talked to coach [Nick] Saban and coach [Kevin] Steel. They were telling me I needed to get there as soon as possible, and I needed to show up in shape to compete."

"I'm doing the Alabama work-out, and I'm working with Connelly Duncan on my speed. I went from a 4.64 to a 4.55 since I've been working with him. I think I'm making good progress."

"I went for my physical yesterday, and I was 6- 3, 256-pounds."

We couldn't allow McClain to get away without a comment on the record-breaking crowd at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

"That crowd was crazy," he simply stated.
