Potter Is SEC Pitcher of the Week

The Southeastern Conference announced on Monday that University of Alabama senior Blair Potter was this week's recipient of SEC Softball Pitcher of the Week.

Potter, a lefty pitcher from Columbus, Ga., helped lead the Crimson Tide to a 4-0 record last week, including a three-game sweep over Kentucky this past weekend. In the final game of the series, Potter hurled the school's 12th no-hitter in an 8-0 five-inning victory.

The first no-hitter in her two seasons with the Crimson Tide improved Potter's season record to 16-0. She is now 21-0 in her career at Alabama.

Potter also recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts in the game. She matched her career high of 10 that she set on Saturday in game two of the series. After getting the leadoff batter to ground out, Potter struck out the next nine batters she faced. Only one hit made it out of the infield when she served up a fly out to left in the fifth inning.

For the week she threw 18 1/3 innings with nine hits allowed and 28 strikeouts. She did not allow a run or walk a batter all week. Opponents batted just .138 against her for the week and she recorded two shutouts. She pitched 6 1/3 innings with five hits allowed and eight strikeouts against Troy on Tuesday. She threw a complete game seven-inning shutout on Saturday against the Wildcats with 10 stirkeouts and four hits allowed.

Potter is the fifth UA player to garner SEC weekly honors this season. Brittany Rogers, Lauren Parker and Dani Woods have all been SEC Player of the Week and Charlotte Morgan is a three-time SEC Freshman of the Week selection.

The Crimson Tide will wrap up its regular season this weekend when they travel to Knoxville, Tenn. for a three-game series with No. 1 Tennessee. The first game of Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN2. Sunday's season finale will also start at 1 p.m. and will be shown live on ESPN.
