"Hey, Coach," Sort Of

For the second and final week, Coach Nick Saban's remarks on the Alabama athletics radio program "Hey Coach" will be taped. There will also be a taped report from several Crimson Tide players on the syndicated show that airs Thursday nights.

Next week Alabama fans will get their first opportunity to call into the show and ask questions of Coach Nick Saban. This procedure is not new. Alabama football coaches have historically waited until the team was in game-week mode before beginning live appearances on the call-in radio show.

Tom Roberts is host of the show, which will air live from Bob Baumhower's Wings Sports Grille in Tuscaloosa beginning Thursday, August 30. The legendary Kenny Stabler, the Tide's color commentator on the game day radio broadcasts, will join the show, as will new sideline reporter and former All-American Barry Krauss.

As fall classes opened at the University of Alabama on Wednesday, the Crimson Tide football team continued its preparations for the upcoming 2007 season on the Thomas-Drew Practice Facility.

With the first day of classes, 22 walk-ons joined the UA roster and worked without pads Wednesday afternoon in their first practice of the season with the team. An updated roster is expected to be made available soon.

Nose tackle Brian Motley, who had surgery on his hand last week, was back at practice and wearing a black non-contact jersey. Lorenzo Washington has been working number one at nose tackle.

The Tide opens its regular season on Saturday, September 1, when it plays host to Western Carolina in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

"We are really focused on Western Carolina right now," said sophomore offensive lineman Andre Smith. "The line has improved tremendously and we are just working hard and having fun right now."
