Schreiber Leaves Alabama Football

Zach Schreiber, a sophomore linebacker, has decided to leave the Alabama football program and transfer to a school closer to his Shreveport, La., home. He was listed as a back-up to Zeke Knight at strongside linebacker.

Zach Schreiber had an excellent A-Day Game, but at 6-1, 211 pounds he was considered undersized at linebacker.

Alabama Coach Nick Saban said, "Zach is a fine young man who worked extremely hard. He wanted to go to a school closer to home, so we granted him his release."

The Crimson Tide practiced for two hours in full gear Tuesday afternoon as preparations continued for Saturday's SEC opener against Vanderbilt. Bama worked on first-and-ten, second-and-long, goal line and short-yardage situations.

Alabama and Vandy will kick off shortly after 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Vanderbilt Stadium/Dudley Field in Nashville. The game is sold out and will be regionally telecast on the SEC's Lincoln Financial Network.
