Tiffin Named SEC Specialist Of Week

Two Southeastern Conference Players of the Week awards came out of Saturday's 17-12 Mississippi State victory over Alabama. Both teams had an award winner.

Sophomore Alabama placekicker Leigh Tiffin of Muscle Shoals was named the Special Teams Player of the Week and Mississippi State defensive back Anthony Johnson won the SEC's defensive player award. Tiffin connected on all four of his field goal attempts and accounted for all of Alabama's . Tiffin was good from 39, 29, 50 and 51 yards - the latter being a career-best.

He also handled kickoffs, with Mississippi State averaging its own 25 yard line on five kicks.

Tiffin has now made eight consecutive field goals and has made 21-of-28 attempts this season.

He leads SEC and ranks third nationally in field goals per game (2.1).

Johnson recorded two tackles, returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown and had a pass deflection for Mississippi State. Johnson's interception return came with 0:04 left in the first half and gave the Bulldogs a 10-9 halftime lead.
