BamaMag.com: Preview Belmont at Bama

The Belmont Bruins (3-2) visit Coleman Coliseum this Monday night (11/19/07) at 6:00pm CST to take on the Tide (2-0). Belmont comes into this game with wins over Cincinnati, Western Carolina and Samford. The losses have come to Bowling Green and Austin Peay. The Bruins have been true road warriors as they have yet to play a home game.

For the third game in a row, Alabama will have a distinct size advantage as Belmont has only two players who are over 6-8 with both as underclassmen. It appears the Bruins are searching for some chemistry as 11 players have started at one time or another. Another conclusion you can draw is they will also have a deep bench.

Belmont is led by 6-2 senior guard Justin Hare at 16 points per game. Offensively, the Bruins average 74 points, 14.8 assist, and 17.2 turnovers per game as a team.

Belmont's shooting percentages are 44-percent from the floor, 36-percent from the arc, and 76.6 from the charity stripe. Defensively, the Bruins average 35.6 rebounds, 8.8 steals and 1.8 blocks per game as a team. Opponents shooting percentages are 45-percent from the floor and 29-percent from the arc.

For Bama, the offensive theme is "Feed the Beast" as the Bruins have no answer for Richard Hendrix. If Belmont tries to focus on Hendrix too much, look for the Tide to find the open jumper on the kick-out. With the Bruins prone to turnovers, look for Bama to press at every opportunity with their abundant athleticism.

Alabama will also control the boards in a decisive fashion which is an important factor when it comes to winning or losing. The Tide made some strides between the first and second game by reducing their turnovers and shooting the three ball better.

Look for them to continue improving in other aspects of their game with a win over Belmont.
