Caldwell Will Make Pro Plans Known

There is some question about what position Antoine Caldwell might play in the 2008 football season. A bigger question is where he might play it. He'll address the media Monday to discuss his thoughts about leaving Bama early for the National Football League.

Antoine Caldwell is one of Alabama's best football players. He is an upcoming senior in eligibility, but he has already fullfilled a primary goal of attending The University. In August, before he had been at Alabama three full years, he was awarded his degree.

It was known that Caldwell would explore the opportunity to take his talents to the NFL a year early. Although the results of his exploration have not been made public, in all probability he was advised that he would not be a first round draft choice. There have been hints he would be a first round pick with a good fourth year of college football.

As Caldwell said, though, those evaluations typically advise underclassmen to return to college.

Caldwell, 6-3, 292, from Montgomery, has played at center, guard and tackle in his Alabama career. He was selected a captain of the 2007 team even though he was one of five players suspended for four games for inappropriate receipt of textbooks. He had 32 consecutive starts before the suspension.

The media advisory said Head Coach Nick Saban will also be available for a brief comment following Antoine's announcement Monday.
