"There's nothing the kid can't do."

Mark Barron
6-2, 210, LB/S
St. Paul's Episcopal (Mobile)
Scout.com five-star recruit

Why Alabama?:"It is just the place I felt the most comfortable. The main reason for me committing to Alabama is that it is where I fit in good, and I can play early. I like the support they get up there," Barron said.

"Ivan [Matchett] and Destin [Hood] being committed played a little factor. I liked they were both committed, and it's good that we will be playing together in college."

On coach Nick Saban as a recruiter: "He did a great job with it. The thing that attracted me the most was the fact that he didn't mess around. He told the truth and got right to the point."

Coach Mike Bates: "There is nothing the kid can't do. He is the most versatile football player I've ever seen in 30 years. He can just do anything that he wants to do."

"He played defense for us, and he also played a lot of offense. Very quiet kid. Very smart kid. He's explosive. You're talking about a kid that won the shot put and the triple jump in track, and he's a skill guy. You know you don't see skilled guys winning the shot put. You see those big lineman. He;s an explosive kid."

"He's got real good work habits. He's very coachable. Very smart on the field."

"I think Mark will play really early. I would be surprised if he doesn't, but that doesn't mean that he will. He just has all the skills that you need. He's a really good person. I enjoy being around Mark."

"It's a tribute to our school. I think it's a really good school. They've obviously got good role models somewhere because they are all pretty good kids."

Bio: As a senior, Barron was ASWA first team All-State in Class 5A, Press Register Elite 18, No. 19 on the Press Register's Southeast Super 120, and an Orlando Sentinel All-Southern Team Alabama Athlete. As a junior, Barron carried the ball 78 times for 785 yards in 2006. He added 23 receptions for 368 yards as well. He scored a total of 12 touchdowns.

Analysis: Barron has very good speed and quickness. Most of all he's explosive and shows another gear and a great burst of acceleration when he gets a crease or makes a move. He shows very good hands as a receiver and can beat you deep. But he's most dangerous in space with the ball. As a runner he shows the ability to hit the hole hard and displays super vision, balance and can change directions very well.
