Dunn's No-Hitter Gets Tide Softball Sweep

The nationally second-ranked Alabama softball team finished off a three-game sweep of Ole Miss on Sunday at the Alabama Softball Complex with a pair of 8-0 run-rule wins, including a five-inning no-hitter by Kelsi Dunne in the series finale.



The sweep improves the Alabama record to 31-3 on the season and a SEC-West-leading 12-2 in league play. Ole Miss falls to 15-20 on the season and 0-14 in conference action.

aturday night's second game was suspended in the bottom of the third inning with the Tide on top 3-0. When the game resumed on Sunday it didn't take Alabama long to put the game away.

The Crimson Tide scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning and Ashley Holcombe then connected for her fifth home run of the season to complete the run-rule to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning.

Alabama continued to pour it on the Rebels in the second game as Dunne recorded her second no-hitter of the season and the 13th in the history of Alabama softball to improve to 14-3 on the year. Jordan Praytor and Charlotte Morgan both connected for home runs as Alabama scored four runs in the first and fourth innings to complete the run-rule.

The Crimson Tide travel to Samford on Tuesday for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch from Bulldog Park in Birmingham. Alabama then returns home on Saturday, April 6, to host a 1 p.m. doubleheader with No. 8 LSU. The series then wraps up at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 6, from the Alabama Softball Complex.

Game 2: Alabama 8, Ole Miss 0 (continued from Saturday)

The second game of the doubleheader on Saturday was postponed until noon on Sunday with the Crimson Tide leading 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning.

Once things got underway on Sunday it was all Alabama as the Tide scored four runs in the third inning behind a three-run home run from Kelley Montalvo and a RBI single by Brittany Rogers.

With the Tide leading 7-0 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, Holcombe closed the game out with a solo home run to straight-away center field.

Morgan notched the win on the mound with a complete-game, four-hit shutout that was spread over two days. She fanned four and did not issue a walk to improve to 7-0 on the mound this season.

Ole Miss hurler Lindsey Perry was tagged with the loss to fall to 4-5 on the year. She surrendered seven runs – six earned – on six hits in 2.1 innings with five walks and no strikeouts.

The Tide offense cranked out nine hits led by two each from Holcombe, Montalvo and Rogers. Montalvo added three RBI while Lauren Parker plated two runs.

Game 3: Alabama 8, Ole Miss 0

Kelsi Dunne tossed her second no-hitter of the season and the 13th in Alabama softball history in the series finale as the Crimson Tide rolled to another 8-0 win over Ole Miss in front of 1,838 fans at the Alabama Softball Complex.

Dunne improved to 14-3 with the win and has thrown 13-consecutive hitless innings dating back to the fifth inning of an 8-1 complete-game win against UAB on Tuesday night. During that hitless-inning streak Dunne has fanned 27 hitters while issuing just two walks and hitting two batters.

Dunne went 3-0 this week with a 0.40 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 17.2 innings. She allowed just one run and four early hits vs. UAB, limiting opponents to a .068 batting average.

Morgan and Praytor provided the offense in the second game with home runs as the Tide pounded out eight hits in four innings. Morgan's home run was her eighth of the season while Praytor hit her second.
