Alabama Signee: Michael Williams

Michael Williams, defensive end from Reform-Pickens, (Ala.), finished with a 3.5 GPA with an ACT score all projecting to clear the way for this weekend's move.

Michael Williams – Defensive end/Tight end, Height: 6-foot-6, Weight: 260 lbs.

Academic status and when he reports:
"I finished with a 3.5 GPA. I can't remember off the top of my head, but I made either a 21 or a 22 on the ACT. I will report June 1 for Alabama's first summer term of classes."

What he wants to improve the most about his game:
"Strength and speed basically--it's what I'm focusing on in my off-season workouts. I'm doing mostly light weights and a lot of repetitions along with a lot of running."

Expectations for the team and himself:
"Hopefully we'll be better than we have been in past years. We'd like to see a lot of improvement, and just have guys get into coach Saban's system of work and get well acquainted with it. As far as myself, I just want to do whatever I can to help and gain the respect of my teammates."

"The coaches are still debating that. Last I heard was either defensive end or the JACK linebacker position."

On being a part of the number one signing class in the country:
"It's an honor. You knew when you came it was going to be like this--a lot of competition and having to work hard for a spot. But that's why you play football."

"Coach Saban will handle that."

Coaches and teammates he's stayed in contact with the most:
"I've kept up with Brad Smelley the most, basically just talking and getting to know each other. I've talked to coach Pendry some recently. He basically just checks up on you and sees how you're doing."

School he would have signed if he didn't sign with Alabama:
"Probably Georgia Tech."
