Brad Smelley--Quarterback, Height: 6-foot-3, Weight: 220 lbs., Max bench: 250 lbs.
"I ended up with around a 3.85 GPA and made a 26 on the ACT. I report to Alabama on June 1."
"I've been working really hard with the coaches at my school [American Christian Academy], and going by the Phase 1 workbook the Alabama coaches gave us after signing day. I've been running a little bit, and I feel prepared going into summer camp."
What he wants to improve about his game:
"I just want to focus on everything I can: mechanics, footwork, reading defenses…everything about being a better quarterback."
Expectations going into the fall:
"I think (the team) we'll be able to compete in every game, as long as we do our best day in and day out. I feel we can reach any limit. I know when I get there, I'm going to try and work harder than everybody, and do everything right. I'm going to perform to the best of my ability and see where that gets me."
"I'm not sure. I don't really have a preference."
John Michael Boswell, Tyler Love, Barrett Jones.
On being a part of the nation's number one signing class:
"It's a great feeling to have the best class in the country. Hopefully we can keep momentum going, have a good year, have another successful class and get better every year. I think we've gotten off to a good start in that regard."
Where he would have signed if he didn't choose Alabama:
"Either Ole Miss or Tennessee."
Teammates he talks with the most:
"I like to go to the Alabama team practices with Barrett [Jones] and Tyler [Love] whenever they're in town. My roommates are the ones I talk to the most."
Coaches he's kept in touch with:
"Coach Joe Pendry. He recruited me, so I call him whenever I need something."
When he knew he wanted to go to Alabama:
"I've pretty much knew all along that's where I wanted to go. It's where I dreamed of playing. When Coach Saban offered me, I took a few weeks to look things over, and then I realized there was no point in waiting any longer. All the coaches were great to me, and Alabama was where I wanted to be."
