Alabama Signee: Barrett Jones

Barrett Jones, Tide signee from Cordova-Evangelical Christian, (Tenn.), will report to Tuscaloosa June 1. One of the brains of the class did not see a red flag from the NCAA Clearinghouse as he prepares for moving day. Jones talked about his future at Alabama.

Barrett Jones

Academic status:
"I've been academically cleared. I have a 4.25 GPA and made a 31 on the ACT."

Off-season workouts:
"I've been participating in Velocity Sports Performance, a speed training program, every Tuesday, Thursdays and Saturdays." (Strength specs: 6-5, 270 lbs., Max 370 lbs. on bench). "I want to improve in all areas of my game. I feel I can never be too good at any one thing."

Expectations for team/self this year:
"I'd like to win every game, but I think we just need to improve from last year and get better every year. I've talked a lot about redshirting. I'm not sure if I'll do that yet, but I'm just going to get to training camp and see if I'm ready. My most important personal goal is to get Academic All-SEC. You have to put school first because it's the primary reason you're there."

Position:
"It's looking like I'll start out at center. Coach Pendry told me I'd start out there a couple of days ago and just work my way up."

Jersey number:
"I plan to wear number 75. The same number I wore in high school."

Jones will room with Tyler Love, John Michael Boswell and Brad Smelley.

A part of the No. 1 signing class:
"It's a real honor to be part of the No. 1 signing class, but none of that really matters once you arrive. That has to translate onto the field. You have to go out there and prove just how much you're worth."

School he would have gone to if he didn't commit to Alabama:
"Either Tennessee or North Carolina."

Future teammates stayed in contact the most:
"I talk to Tyler Love the most. He's actually come up here and stayed at my house one weekend. I keep in touch with all of my future roommates."

Alabama coaches who he has talked with the most:
"During recruiting I spoke to Coach Pendry often, but not so much now that it's over. I speak to coach Cochran (S&C) once every two weeks and coach Steele, the guy that recruited me, every once in a while."

When he knew Alabama was the place for him:
"I've been an Alabama fan ever since I was five. When I visited Alabama for the Tennessee game, and we won 41-17, I knew that's where I wanted to be."
