Photo report: Tide dominates LSU, 31-0

The picture at left pretty much tells the story.

By completely dominating a talented Bengal Tiger team on the road at night in Death Valley, Dennis Franchione and Alabama drove their point home to the football world. At the same time the 31-0 win exorcised the Tide's last remaining demon from the 2001 season.

Alabama running back Santonio Beard (34) watches as Sam Collins (7) blocks LSU's Corey Webster (13) in the first half of their college football game in Baton Rouge, La. Saturday night Nov. 16, 2002. Beard followed the block all the way into the end zone scoring Alabama's first touchdown. For the game Beard had 109 yards on 18 carries for two touchdowns. Collins chipped in five receptions for 115 yards. (AP Photo/Bill Haber)

Alabama quarterback Tyler Watts (14) dives for a first down as LSU Tigers defenders Corey Webster (13) and Jack Hunt (8) combine for the stop in the first half of their college football game. Watts totaled 214 yards of offense, 37 on the ground and 177 through the air. He scored one rushing touchdown and threw for another. (AP Photo/BillHaber)

LSU tight end Eric Edwards (47) is stopped by Alabama defender Brooks Daniels (18) in the first half of their college football game. Edwards had a short gain on the play. After being frankly embarrassed last year versus LSU, the Tide defense had a statement game Saturday, shutting down the Bengal Tiger attack and earning its first shutout of the season. LSU defender Demetrius Hookfin (33) grabs an interception as Alabama wide receiver Clint Johnston (88) battles for the ball in the first half of their college football game. Closing in for the Tigers is safety Jack Hunt (8). It was a big play for LSU, ending Bama's first-quarter drive. But the interception was basically the Tiger's last hurrah, as the Tide scored two second-quarter touchdowns and added 17 more points in the second half on its way to a 31-0 victory. Alabama's Shaud Williams (21) breaks away from LSU's Jack Hunt (8) in the first half of their college football game. Williams broke up the middle of the LSU defense for a first down deep in LSU territory. Against LSU's top-ranked defense, Williams gained 133 yards on 15 carries, averaging 8.9 yards per attempt. Alabama Triandos Luke (84) tries to get around the corner as LSU defender Demetrius Hookfin (33) closes in the first half of their college football game. Luke lost yardage on this play, but for the game the senior wideout caught two passes for 22 yards and scored a two-point conversion on an end-around. (AP Photo/Bill Haber)
