A JUCO speed merchant to watch

Tide fans are familiar with Titus Ryan and are anxious for him to graduate from junior college and enter The Capstone. But another JUCO wideout, Ronald Smith, may be just as fast.

Smith, 6-2, 185, prepped at Fairhope High School in Fairhope, Alabama. During his high school career, Smith actually defeated Ryan in some head-to-head meets.

However, serious academic problems kept Smith's name out of the recruiting headlines. At first, he didn't even graduate from high school. But has since passed the GED, which allowed him to enroll at East Central Community College in Decatur, Mississippi.

Sporting a 4.30 best-clocking in the 40-yard dash, Smith is a speed merchant, capable of getting deep against even the fastest secondaries.

Fans don't know him very well, but since passing the GED Smith has become a household name among JUCO coaches.

Smith led East Central CC in receiving this past season, with 17 receptions for 440 yards. That averages out to a whopping 25.9 yards per catch. Smith garnered three touchdown receptions.

If he is able to complete his class work at the JUCO level and sign with a Division 1a team, Smith's name could become very familiar to football fans.

Alabama and several other schools are watching Smith's progress closely.
