Alabama Lands Mobile Defender

Gerald West, three-star cornerback from Mobile-Faith Academy, (Ala.) announced Tuesday evening where he plans to play college football. West has decided to stay in the SEC and play in the state of Alabama. He talks about the major college decision.

"I have committed to Alabama," said Gerald West. "Alabama. Every time I go up there they treat me like family. I like the environment and coaching staff. Coach [Nick] Saban is the best defensive back around."

"I feel like Alabama is the place for me. It feels good to have my decision over with. I thought about it long and hard. I have no regrets right now. I am feeling really good about it."

"I talked to coach Saban. He told me he was really happy. I heard it in his voice. He said glad to have a player of my caliber. He is really looking forward to me coming and coaching me."

"The coaches are real down to earth people. They always have high intensity about football. He is the best defensive back coach around. He can teach me to get better and get to the next level."

"The staff is always happy and want to talk about football. They are really down to earth. I like them a lot."

West finished his junior season with 56 tackles and seven interceptions where he played for Davidson High School. He has transferred to Faith Academy for his senior season.

He chose Alabama over several offers including Arkansas, Auburn, Florida LSU, South Carolina and South Florida.

"I am finished with my recruitment," he said. "I am not going to take any other visits."

West was selected All-Combine at the Under Armour combine in Mobile. He drew heavy praise in individuals and one-on-ones from defensive backs coach Don Cox.
