"Everybody on the same page."

Petey Smith, 6-1, 250-pound middle linebacker from Seffner-Armwood, Fla., chose the University of Alabama over Auburn and Tennessee.

"I just love that it's a family-oriented school," Petey Smith said. "Everybody works together. Everybody has one goal and everybody is on the same page."

Smith's brother, Eric, is in the running back rotation for the Auburn Tigers. Petey had been to The Plains numerous times, and in fact his relationship was built with the former Tiger assistant James Willis who is now coaching at Alabama.

"I think it's a good move with coach Willis coming in," Smith said. "I think they got the best guy for the job. It played a big factor, but in the end Alabama was just the better school for me when it comes down to it."

Smith completed a decorated career with more than 450 career tackles. He was named All-Hillsborough County and All-Suncoast First Team Linebacker.

"Smith is a physical tackler and very quick for his size. He has great lateral movement and a good run stopper."
