"I have real high expectations," said Johnson. "I want to start as a true freshman and be an impact player."

Coming off a 12-2 season and a trip to a BSC bowl game, Johnson has big ideas for the Tide's future as well.

Johnson is projected to play linebacker, although played a little bit of everything at Andalusia High School for Coach Brian Seymore.

"Hey, I'll play wherever they want me," he stated.

In high school Johnson wore the No. 26, and is hoping that is available or No. 5 when he suits up for the Tide.

Nico had offers from a plethora of big name colleges throughout the nation. USC, Texas A&M, and Georgia among others were competing for his commitment. In early September Johnson committed to Alabama.

"It was 50-50 with Auburn. Auburn's a good school, but I grew up an Alabama fan and my heart was always with them," he said. "If I hadn't have picked Alabama I'd have probably gone to LSU or Florida."

Nico says he stays in touch with his future teammates.

"I talk to all of them," he said. "The guys I talk to the most are AJ (McCarron) and D.J. (Fluker)."

Quite an athlete Nico Johnson was also an All-State selection in basketball. He plans on studying Criminal Justice at UA and hopes to do something professionally in Law Enforcement with his degree.
