Carpenter chose Alabama over Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Texas Tech and Iowa State.
James Carpenter is a great run and pass blocker. He spent a year and a half at the junior college level. He graduated in December and enrolled at Alabama.
Carpenter will challenge for immediate playing time. He will get a shot playing left tackle to start the season, but may eventually move to the inside to play guard.
"When I went to Alabama, I felt it was the place for me, but I wanted to take all of my visits to make sure," Carpenter said. "After taking all of my visits, I just did not get that feeling that I got while I was at Alabama."
