Tide Gymnasts Make Leap To Number 5

The Alabama Gymnastics team lept four places to number five in the national rankings this week on the strength of its highest team score of the season, a 197.025 against Denver last Friday.

Alabama, ninth the last two weeks, boasts a season average of 196.265. Utah and UCLA are first and second again this week with Georgia at No. 3. Stanford is less than a tenth ahead of Alabama at No. 4. Auburn is sixth this week, followed by Arkansas, Oklahoma, Florida and Oregon State. LSU and Nebraska round out the top-12.

Alabama remains the nation's top ranked balance beam team with an average that is nearly two-tenths of a point better than second place UCLA. Alabama is seventh on the uneven bars, eighth on the vault and 13th on the floor exercise.

Junior Ricki Lebegern is ranked 12th in the all-around after posting a season-high score of 39.425 against Denver. Four members of the Crimson Tide are ranked in the top-25 on the balance beam led by freshmen Ashley Priess and Geralen Stack-Eaton at 10th and 11th respectively. Junior Kassi Price is 13th on the beam while Lebegern is 20th. Priess is also ninth on the uneven bars. Junior Morgan Dennis is ninth on the vault and senior Ashley O'Neal is 17th on the floor exercise.

A week after stepping out of conference competition for the first time this season to face Denver, Alabama competes against its first Southeastern Conference foe in six weeks when number 11 LSU comes to town Friday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262), located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum, or online at RollTide.com.
