Tide Softball Has SEC Freshman Star
"Amanda was awesome during her home debut in the BAMA Bash," Alabama Coach Patrick Murphy said. "She pitched a shutout and then looked terrific at the plate in every game. This will be the first of many honors for her during her career at Alabama."
In her first career appearance at the Alabama Softball Complex the newcomer did not disappoint. Locke belted three home runs in three consecutive games to supply the punch for the potent Crimson Tide offense.
The Mesquite, Texas native batted .556 (5-for-9) with a team-leading five RBI and five runs scored. Locke sported an astronomical 1.667 slugging percentage for the week as four of her five hits were for extra bases. Locke also posted a .636 on base percentage after drawing two walks.
In her first game of the BAMA Bash Locke batted 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs. Her home run was a line drive shot to dead centerfield. In the second game against Notre Dame Locke batted 2-for-3 with a solo shot that hit off of the scoreboard after battling off 11 pitches. Her last shot was a prodigious blast that caromed off of the light pole in left centerfield. Locke was 2-for-2 in the contest against Wisconsin.
In the circle the 5-11 right-hander pitched a complete game shutout to earn her second victory on the season. Locke struck out four and walked none while scattering five hits to earn the five-inning win.
Number one ranked Alabama will head to California to play in the Cathedral City Classic. The Crimson Tide opens play against BYU on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. CST. Alabama will play a total of five games, including contests against highly ranked Oklahoma and UCLA.
