SEC Selects Gee As Player Of Week

University of Alabama star Alonzo Gee has been named the Southeastern Conference men's basketball Player of the Week the league office announced Monday.

Alabama's Alonzo Gee, a senior from Riviera Beach, Fla., averaged 22.5 points and 8.5 against Florida and Mississippi State, and surpassed the 1,500 career-point mark last week.

Gee led Alabama to its 87-85 double-overtime win against Mississippi State with a season-high 28 points and 10 rebounds. He scored 13 of UA's first 19 points in the game and then posted 11 points in the two overtime session. Ten of his overtime points came in the second overtime period, including back-to-back three-pointers that gave the Crimson Tide the lead for good.

Against Florida, Gee had 17 points and seven rebounds with a breakaway dunk in the second half giving him 1,500 career-points at UA. He finished the week with 1,534 career points, 13th all-time in the UA annals.

The Player of the Week honor is the first for Gee and the first for a Crimson Tide player since Richard Hendrix earned the award on November 11, 2007.

Gee and the Crimson Tide will return to action this week against Arkansas on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum.
