Alabama Gymnasts Host Stanford
The rankings are determined by the regional qualifying score (RQS) a formula that tallies a team's three highest road scores and its next three highest scores, drops the high score and averages the remaining five. The Crimson Tide's strong weekend allowed it to raise its RQS by more than four-tenths of a point. Georgia remains at No. 1 this week followed by Utah at No. 2 and the Tide's next opponent, Stanford at No. 3. Florida is fourth followed by Alabama.
UCLA is sixth this week while Oklahoma is seventh and Auburn eighth. Oregon State and Arkansas are ninth and 10th respectively while LSU and Nebraska round out the top 12. Alabama, who posted the weekend's second and sixth highest scores nationally, has or will face seven of the remaining 11 members of this week's top 12.
Alabama is ranked second on the balance beam this week and sixth on both the uneven bars and vault. On the floor exercise, the Tide stands just outside the top 10 at No. 11.
Individually, junior Ricki Lebegern is 12th in the all-around, 13th on the balance beam and 25th on the vault. Freshman Ashley Priess is seventh on the balance beam, 12th on the floor exercise and 14th on the uneven bars. She is also the Southeastern Conference's top freshman on those three events.
Junior Morgan Dennis, who scored a career-high 39.725 in the all-around Friday night against Auburn, is ranked ninth on the vault and 20th on the floor exercise. Freshman Geralen Stack-Eaton is tied with Lebegern for 13th on the balance beam.
Alabama takes on Stanford Friday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum. The Tide will be celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday and "Academic Achievement" night. Fans can bring a book to the meet to receive free admission and Tuscaloosa City and County A/B Honor Roll students will receive admission for two to this meet. Students will receive their vouchers from their teachers and will turn them in for tickets at the window. Tickets are available through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262) located in the lobby of the Coliseum or online at RollTide.com.
