Tide Gymnasts Up To Fourth

The Alabama gymnastics team continues to rise in the national rankings, going from fifth a week ago to fourth this week on the strength of its second highest score of the season, a 197.150, which was enough to upset No. 3 ranked Stanford last Friday.

Over the last two weeks, the Crimson Tide has bettered its regional qualifying score by .710, jumping from No. 11 to its current spot inside the top 5. The top three remains unchanged from last week, with Georgia leading the way followed by Utah and Stanford. Florida is No. 5 followed by LSU, giving the Southeastern Conference four of the top six spots this week. UCLA is No. 7 followed by No. 8 Auburn, No. 9 Oregon State and the Crimson Tide's next opponent, Oklahoma, at No. 10. Arkansas is No. 11 while Nebraska rounds out the top 12.

Alabama is ranked in the top 10 on all four events this week, coming in at No. 3 on the balance beam, No. 4 on the vault, No. 6 on the uneven bars and No. 10 on the floor exercise. The Crimson Tide posted season-high scores on the vault (49.425) and floor exercise (49.450) against Stanford.

Individually, junior Ricki Lebegern is 13th in the all-around this week, as well as 16th on the balance beam and 23rd on the floor exercise while junior Morgan Dennis is fifth on the floor exercise and 10th on the vault.

Freshman Ashley Priess is 10th on the balance beam and floor exercise and 13th on the uneven bars. She is the only freshman ranked among the top 10 on the balance beam, with the other nine all coming from the junior and senior class. Freshman Geralen Stack-Eaton is tied with Lebegern for 16th on the balance beam.

Alabama finishes off the regular season Friday, March 13 with a tri-meet against No. 10 Oklahoma and No. 26 North Carolina at Coleman Coliseum. Tickets are available through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262) located in the lobby of the coliseum or online at RollTide.com.
