No. 1 Tide Softball Plays In Birmingham

The No. 1 ranked Alabama softball team will conclude its two-game series against instate rival UAB on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at George Ward Park. The contest will be the first of five for the Crimson Tide on the week.

Alabama is coming off a successful appearance in a tournament in Tuscaloosa. Bama played two games each against Washington, which was ranked number one in the nation in a separate college softball poll, and two against Baylor, also a ranked team. Bama split with Washington and beat Baylor two games.

Alabama broke its all-time attendance record with over 3,000 watching Bama's Saturday game against Washington at the UA Softball Complex.

Alabama will host Mississippi Valley State Thursday and open SEC play against Mississippi State Saturday.

Kelsi Dunne earned two wins on the weekend while Whitney Larsen smacked two home runs, including a grand slam. Both Dunne victories were shutouts, including an eight-strikeout, two-hit performance against Washington.

Dunne was named SEC pitcher of the week. On the season she is a perfect 8-0 with an 0.38 ERA. Oppnents are hitting a meager .148 and she has struck out 80 in 56 innings.

Alabama played UAB in Tuscaloosa last week and won 8-1 in Tuscaloosa. Bama is 6-0 all-time against UAB. The Blazers are coming off a weekend split with Southern Miss. UAB is 8-10 on the year.

Against UAB last week, Bama's Jennifer Fenton hit her first career home run and fellow newcomer Jazlyn Lunceford got two hits. Amanda Locke was the winning pitcher.
