UA's Kathleen Ekey SEC Golfer Of Week

Alabama senior Kathleen Ekey was named the Southeastern Conference Women's Golfer of the Week the league office announced on Monday following her tournament win at the rain-shortened Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the University of Georgia Golf Course last weekend.

Ekey captured her second career tournament title with a 3-under-par 69 in windy and wet conditions in the only round of the rain-shortened Liz Muprhey Collegiate Classic. With the tournament shortened to just 18 holes after play on Friday and Saturday was rained out, Alabama finished tied for second as a team with a 14-over-par 302.

"I was able to hit the ball exactly where I wanted to," Ekey said following the win. "I think that was one of the reasons I was able to win. I hit the ball really well, I put it in the right spots and I was able to make a few putts."

It was Ekey's second career tournament title after claiming the 2008 Crimson Tide Classic and just her second round in the 60s this season.

The Wadsworth, Ohio native has now carded two straight top six finishes after a tie for sixth place at the First Market Bank Intercollegiate. Ekey boasts a team-best 73.4 scoring average and has five top 10 finishes in eight tournaments this season.

The next SEC female golfer of the week will be named on April 9 while the male golfer of the week will be selected on April 13.
