Bama Freshman Is SEC Golfer Of Week

Alabama freshman golfer Bud Cauley was named the Southeastern Conference Men's Golfer of the Week the league office announced on Monday.

Alabama freshman Bud Cauley captured his first career collegiate individual tournament title by sharing medalist honors at the United States Collegiate Championship at The Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, Ga., April 5-7. Cauley fired a 4-under-par 212 in the 54-hole event that featured the top 11 teams in the Golfweek/Nike Golf Men's Coaches Poll.

The Jacksonville, Fla. native opened with a 2-under-par 70 in the first round and followed that with a 3-under-69 in the second round. His 69 was one of just two rounds in the 60s in the second round as players fought gusty winds and cold temperatures on the Lakeside Course layout. Cauley closed with a one-over 73 in a final round that featured high winds and snow.

He leads the Crimson Tide with a 71.62 scoring average. Cauley has four top-five finishes this season and has not finished outside of the top 20 in seven career events. He is ranked eighth individually in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.

The next event on the Crimson Tide's schedule is the SEC Men's Golf Championship that will be held April 17-19 at the Frederica Golf Course in St. Simons Island, Ga.
