Alabama Softball Gets Sweep Of Hogs

The No.6 Alabama softball team completed the three-game sweep of Arkansas with a 9-0 five-inning shutout Sunday at the UA Softball Complex. Alabama plated six of its nine runs with two outs. With the victory the Crimson Tide improves to 38-8 overall and 16-6 in Southeastern Conference play while the Razorbacks fall to 25-20 on the season and 10-11 in SEC play.



"We did a great job continuing innings and scoring runs with two outs today," Alabama Coach Patrick Murphy said. "Ashley {Holcombe} had a great weekend and set the tone for us with her two out RBI. We were able to take advantage of some base running opportunities up and down the entire lineup and we were selective at the plate."

Charlotte Morgan and Laruen Parker each went 2-for-2 at the plate with Morgan collecting four RBI and Parker scoring two runs. Brittany Rogers added a 2-for-3 performance with two runs scored.

Kelsi Dunne started the game and pitched 2 2/3 innings, gave up two hits and stuck out one. Morgan picked up the win to improve to 12-6 on the season. Morgan gave up one hit and stuck out three in 2 1/3 innings of relief.

The Tide quickly took the lead by posting four runs in the bottom half of first.. Rogers led off with a double right over the head of Razorback shortstop Brittany Griffiths then advanced to third on a bunt by Parker. Kelley Montalvo then walked to load the bases and Rogers later scored on a sacrifice fly by Morgan.

Amanda Locke brought Parker home on a ground out to short then Ashley Holcombe singled to plate Montalvo. To round out the inning Cassandra Reilly-Boccia doubled to the right-center wall to score Holcombe and give Alabama the 4-0 lead.

Whitney Larsen led off the second with a single through the left side and Rogers then singled to the pitcher. A sacrifice bunt by Parker advanced Larsen to third and Rogers to second then Alabama put down the squeeze when Montalvo bunted to score Larsen.

Morgan singled to left field to score Rogers, Locke singled through the left side, Holcombe walked to load the bases then Reilly-Boccia drew a walk to score pinch runner Jennifer Fenton.

At the end of two innings the Tide held the 7-0 lead and added two more insurance runs in the third to secure the run-rule victory.

To begin the bottom half of the third Parker singled to left field and advanced to second on a fielding error. Montalvo was walked and Parker moved to third on a wild pitch. Morgan then singled up the middle to score Parker and Montavlo and give the Tide their final 9-0 lead.

Miranda Dixon (16-8) was tagged with the loss after allowing seven runs on eight hits. Dixon walked one in 1 2/3 innings. The Razorbacks only mustered three hits with Whitney Cloer, Amie Hubbard and Tori Mort supplying the tallies.

Alabama travels to Atlanta, Ga. on Wednesday for a midweek doubleheader against Georgia Tech beginning at 4 p.m. EDT. Alabama will conclude its home schedule next weekend against Auburn.
