Bama's Kelsi Dunne SEC Pitcher Of Week

The Alabama softball team of Coach Patrick Murphy went 5-0 last week, including a three-game sweep of Auburn over the weekend to clinch the Southeastern Conference Western Division championship. And Bama right-hander Kelsi Dunn was spectacular in winning four of those games, one of them a no-hitter. As a result, she is the SEC Pitcher of the Week.

Kelsi Dunne, a sophomore from Port Orange, Fla., was a perfect 4-0 for Alabama on the week, including a seven-inning no-hitter to close out a three-game sweep of Auburn on Sunday. Dunne won all three games against the Tigers and also had a mid-week win against Georgia Tech.

Alabama, ranked fifth in the nation last week, improved its record to 43-8 and is now 19-6 in SEC games.

Alabama goes to Knoxville this weekend for a single game Friday evening and a doubleheader Saturday afternoon against Tennessee. The series against the Vols ends regular season play. The SEC Tournament begins Thursday, May 7, in Knoxville.

Dunne tossed her second no-hitter of the season and fourth of her career to secure the series sweep over Auburn. In that contest she fanned a season high 14 batters and walked one. The base on balls was the only one she surrendered in the week.

She had a perfect 0.00 ERA and struck out 32 batters in 19 innings. Opponents only managed to hit .109 during the week. Dunne opened the week with a seven strikeout, two-hit performance against No. 20 Georgia Tech in an 8-0 win. She then backed that up with another two-hitter, punching out 11 in the series opener against Auburn. After earning the win in an inning of relief in game two against the Tigers, on Sunday Dunne pitched Alabama's second no-hitter of the week. Charlotte Morgan had a no-hitter in the one game (against Georgia Tech) that Dunne did not win last week.

Stephanie VanBrakle holds the Alabama record with five no-hitters.
