Tide Women Ninth At NCAA Tourney
The Crimson Tide fired a 14-over-par 302 during the second of four rounds on the Caves Valley tract. Alabama sits at 31-over-par 607 alongside Virginia and Purdue.. UCLA leads the event after 36 holes of play at 13-over-par 596. The Bruins shot a 5-over 293 in the second round.
"We gave ourselves a lot of opportunities to make birdies," Alabama Coach Mic Potter said. "We seemed to miss a lot of those putts today. Then, when we made a mistake, we weren't able to salvage par. We just have to hang in there, and keep giving ourselves opportunities. Hopefully by the end of the week the putts will start going in."
UCLA's Maria Jose Uribe also leads the individual race at 3-under 141 after shooting a 6-under-par 66 in round two. Denver's Stephanie Sherlock, Pepperdine's Lisa McCloskey and Wake Forest's Nannette Hill are tied for second at 1-under-par 143.
Sophomore Camilla Lennarth led the way for the Tide with an even-par round of 72 and is at 6-over 150 for the tournament and tied for 20th. The Stockholm, Sweden native shot a 1-under 35 on her opening nine holes with back-to-back birdies on the 14th and 15th holes after a bogey on the 11th. She then made nine straight pars before a birdie on the par-5 seventh got her to 2-under for the round. Lennarth then bogeyed the eighth and ninth hole to finish at even-par 72.
Courtney Harter is one shot back of Lennarth after two rounds at 7-over 151 and tied for 28th. She carded an impressive 2-over 74 in round two. Harter triple bogeyed her first hole of the day and then played the final 17 holes in 1-under par.
Kathleen Ekey and Brooke Pancake both shot 6-over-par 78 in the second round following 3-over 75 in the opening round. Ekey and Pancake are both tied for 48th position at 9-over 153. Rhea Nair shot an 81 in round two and is tied for 101st heading into Thursday's third round.
Alabama tees off at Noon CDT Thursday from the 10th tee for the third round. The Tide will be playing with Purdue and Duke in the third round. Live stats can be found at www.golfstat.com.
