Savvy QB considering options

The son of a high school coach, quarterback Dustin Goodwin hopes his combination of intelligence and football savvy will earn him a major-college scholarship.

Goodwin (6-2 195 4.66) is a highly intelligent quarterback who is experienced at running the triple option, the speed option, bootlegs, the drop-back passing game, and the roll-out passing game.

From watching film of his games, Dustin throws the intermediate routes very accurately, plus he has the arm strength to throw it deep (up to 65 yards in the air). He sees the field very well and his toughness pays off at crucial times.

Dustin Goodwin attended the NIKE Camp this past summer held at Tuscaloosa.

Goodwin's senior year was a challenge as he was playing with three first-year receivers. But he made the most of the situation, leading his team to the semi finals of the state playoffs. Goodwin completed 134 passes on 234 attempts for 2,043 yards and 22 touchdowns against just seven interceptions. He also rushed 57 times for 457 yards and seven more TDs.

His efforts vaulted him to the All-Northwest Alabama first team, and Goodwin was also selected his team's Most Valuable Offensive Player.

As a junior Goodwin passed for 1,875 yards and 20 TDs, while completing 59% of his passes. That year he also rushed for 352 yards and 5 TDs.

The Demopolis native has attended camps at Alabama and Auburn, and the Nike Camp at Tuscaloosa.

Goodwin has a 31-inch vertical jump, bench presses 300 pounds, and squats 535. He has a 3.73 GPA and scored 19 on the ACT.

Dustin's father, Doug Goodwin, played at Auburn and is now Head Football Coach at Demopolis High School.

Goodwin has scheduled official visits to Alabama (1-24) and Southern Miss (1-17). He is also considering Auburn and Louisville among others.

NOTE: Goodwin hopes to play for a major college on scholarship, but so far Alabama has not offered.
