Gilbert Promoted In Athletics Department
Moore has promoted Jon Gilbert, a member of the Alabama athletics department's senior executive staff, to associate athletics director for External Operations.
"Jon Gilbert has proven himself to be an important member of the athletics department and I have full confidence that he will continue to excel within this new role," Moore said. "Throughout his nearly 15-year career here at Alabama Jon has taken on more and more responsibilities and I feel that he is a natural fit for this position and he will have a great impact on the department as we move forward."
Gilbert, a member of the athletics department staff since 1995, will have oversight over the ticket, Tide Pride and marketing departments and serve as a liaison with Crimson Tide Sports Marketing.
"I'm excited about the new challenges that lie before me and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to take this step within the department," Gilbert said.
If you have had a personal visit from Gilbert, it probably means you are doing pretty well. Prior to this latest promotion, Gilbert was the director of Major Gifts for the Tide's development office.
Gilbert also has served as UA's associate athletics director for Event Management.
Gilbert is a native of Lakeland, Florida. A three-year letterman at tight end at Lenoir-Rhyne College, he earned a bachelor's degree in 1991 and went on to earn a master's degree in sports administration from Eastern Kentucky University in 1992.
Gilbert is married to the former Katie Williams, an All-America swimmer at Alabama from 1986-90. The couple has two children: Larsen and Kent.
