"Buddy has extensive experience coaching the defensive line and he will be a great addition of our staff," Mike Price said. "He is an excellent teacher and motivator. Buddy is a good fit our staff."
"Alabama is a top program with great traditions and I think I will fit in well with Coach Price and this staff," Wyatt said. "I look forward to working with the young men at Alabama."
A native of Victoria, Texas, Wyatt played at Stroman High School where he lettered in football, basketball and track. He graduated in 1985 and attended TCU where he earned four letters as a defensive lineman for Coach Jim Wacker. He recorded 46 stops as a senior, including four quarterback sacks. He graduated with a degree in education in 1989.
After playing two seasons of professional football, Wyatt returned as a graduate assistant working with the defensive line at TCU in 1991. During his days in Fort Worth, Wyatt was active in many community activities including Meals on Wheels, helping with a disadvantaged youth program as well as the physically handicapped program, and drug awareness and education for youth.
The University of Minnesota hired Wyatt in 1992 to coach the defensive line and special teams and he stayed in Minneapolis through the 1995 season. He spent the 1996 season as the defensive line coach at Oklahoma State before heading to Northwestern to coach the defensive line for coach Gary Barnett in 1997-98.
While he was at Northwestern, Wyatt tutored Casey Dailey, Keith Lozowski and Kejuan DuBose. Dailey and Lozowski were two of the top pass rushers in school history and both went on to play in the NFL with the New York Jets. DuBose played with the Chicago Bears.
When Barnett left to take the Colorado head coaching position, Wyatt moved to Boulder for the 1999 season and helped the Buffaloes reach the Insight.com Bowl.
Wyatt and his wife, Andrea, have one son, Fredrick (6).
