Alabama Tightens Hold On No. 1

The Alabama Gymnastics Team tightened its hold on the nation's No. 1 ranking this week after posting the second highest road score in the nation on Saturday at Penn State. Alabama is also No. 1 in the nation on the vault and balance beam, third on the uneven bars and fifth on the floor exercise.

Last week Alabama held a .05 lead over No. 2 Oklahoma in the rankings which are decided by total average. This week the Crimson Tide leads the Sooners by .150. Florida is No. 3 followed by Utah and Oregon State. The Tide's next opponent, LSU, is ranked 12th this week.

Individually, this weekend brings up a 1 vs. 2 battle between LSU's Susan Jackson, the nation's top ranked all-arounder and Morgan Dennis who checks in at No. 2. Dennis is also ranked in the top 10 on three events, coming in at No. 2 on the vault, No. 8 on the floor exercise and No. 10 on the balance beam.

Sophomore Ashley Priess is ranked third on the balance beam and seventh in the all-around and on the uneven bars. Junior Kassi Price is sixth on the uneven bars. Senior Ricki Lebegern and sophomore Geralen Stack-Eaton are tied for 13th on the vault while junior Kayla Hoffman is 19th.

Alabama stays on the road this weekend, traveling to Baton Rouge, La. to face LSU Friday at 7 p.m. before returning home to face Florida Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the Tide's home meets are available through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262) located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum or online at
